If your doctor is to continue your medication over months or years, you can obtain repeat prescriptions. Our computer will generate a new prescription on the left-hand sheet and a request for a future repeat on the right-hand side.
We request you to detach the repeat request at the time of collecting a script and keep it safe until you need to request a further supply of your medication.
Prescriptions can be requested through SystmOnline
Please remember to allow at least 48hrs between requesting and collecting your prescription. It is always preferable for you to tick the items you need from the printed list given and return it to the surgery for processing. If however you require an item which is not listed simply write the name of the medication, the strength and the frequency of use clearly on the sheet, along with when you were last prescribed the item and by whom. With this system we hope to ensure we are minimising the risks of errors occuring and there should be no need for any urgent repeat requests.
Please allow a minimum of two working days (Monday - Friday) to process a request.
Please note that requests handed in on Friday afternoon or posted into our letter box will not be dealt with until the next working day and that the 48 hours therefore runs from when we are actually able to process your request.
Likewise if you dop a request in over the weekend it will not be processed until the next working day (usually Monday) and will not therefore be ready for collection until at least 48 hours later. We always try to turn prescription requests around within 48 hrs however on rare occasions they may take longer and we apologise for any problems this may cause.
If you send a postal request (having included an SAE), please allow an extra two to three days at least as we cannot guarantee when we will receive your request.
Telephone requests for repeat medication will not be accepted at any time. This is to prevent possible errors.
PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS OVER A BANK HOLIDAYS
If a prescription is requested on a Friday before a bank holiday the precription will not be ready until the following Wedneday evening.
Unused prescription medicines cost the NHS across the UK over £300 million every year.
£300 million could pay for:
· 80,906 MORE hip replacements*
· 101,351 MORE knee replacements*
· 19,799 MORE drug treatment courses for breast cancer*
· 11,778 MORE community nurses*
· 300,000 MORE drug treatment courses for Alzheimer's*

How Can You Help?
There are a number of ways that you can help to reduce the issue of wasted medicines and save money for your local NHS.
Only order the medicines that you need
Please let your GP or Pharmacist know if you’ve stopped taking any of your medicines
Check what medicines you still have at home before re-ordering
· Discuss your medication with your GP or Pharmacist on a regular basis
Think carefully before ticking all the boxes on your repeat prescription forms and only tick those you really need
If you don’t need the medicine please don’t order it! If you need the medicine in the future you can still request it.
If you need to go into hospital, please remember to take all your medicines with you in a clearly marked bag.
Please also remember that your medicines are prescribed only for you; it’s not safe to share them with anyone else.
Remember that unused medicines cannot be recycled
Even if you never open them, once medicines have left the Pharmacy, they cannot be recycled or used by anyone else.
· Please bring your unused medicines to the Pharmacy for safe disposal .
NEVER dispose of your unused or unwanted medicines down the toilet
Unused medicines are a safety risk
· Return out of date medicines to your pharmacy or dispensary for safe disposal
If your medicines change - return your old medicines to the pharmacy for safe disposal to avoid mixing them up with your new medicines
Don't stockpile medication - it is a safety risk for children and others who might take them
Store medicines in an appropriate place out of reach of children
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
From 1 April 2009, the charges are:
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. The charge for a single prescription item is £7.20, whereas a three month PPC will cost you £28.25 and a 12 month PPC £108.10.

Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your Repeat Prescription request to be processed. Prescription requests can not be taken over the telephone.
