Thank you for reaching out about an ADHD referral. To help guide you through the next stages, please take a moment to read these three steps carefully
STEP 1:
NHS or Right to Choose Pathway
You can choose to access these assessments through the NHS pathway.
Due to exceptionally high demand, local NHS waiting times for ADHD assessments are currently significant. If you prefer not to wait, you can opt for the Right to Choose (RTC) pathway. This allows you to select an alternative provider for an NHS-funded assessment. Please note that our practice cannot recommend, select, or assess the suitability of a provider for you. While we understand you want to be seen quickly, we strongly advise researching the service to ensure it meets your specific needs, rather than choosing a provider based solely on the shortest waiting list.
Because these are private companies, you have to pick the one you want yourself, we aren't allowed to choose one for you.
Find the list: You can see a full list of approved clinics on the ADHD UK website

When choosing a provider consider;
- Whether you meet their referral criteria
- That they can prescribe all medications indicated on a long term basis
- The waiting times and the type of assessment being provided
After choosing your preferred pathway, please read the instructions for Step 2 below.
STEP 2:
In order to process your ADHD referral, you must do all of the following;
-
Complete the possible ADHD Referral Form which includes the screening questionnaire.
- If you choose to proceed via the Right to Choose pathway, please check the provider's website and complete any specific referral forms they require. Without these they will not accept your referral.
We can only accept your request for a referral for ADHD assessment once all of the above documentation has been received.
STEP 3:
Once we have received all the information, a member of our team will review your documentation. This process can take up to take 4 weeks. If you meet the criteria, the admin team will make the referral to your chosen provider, sending off all the required documents. After this, your chosen provider will be in touch. If you don’t meet the criteria for referral, you will be informed and signposted to general support. Once your referral has been sent to your chosen provider, the surgery will no longer be involved in the process and all queries must be directed to your provider.
